Bayer denies improper testing
Life threatening side effects such as blood clots, deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke, gallbadder disease, abnormal heartbeats, and sudden death now top the list of problems Bayer is having with Yaz.
Bayer's quality control methods came into the spotlight after a letter dated August 5, 2009 from the FDA expressed concerns about the quality control methods used in the manufacture of Yaz which may compromise public health and safety.
The letter states that Bayer's quality control testing method used averages for batches tested rather than individual batch results placing all batches within tested within acceptable parameters. When in fact some batches may have fallen well outside the standards established for quality control.
Bayer responded to the FDA in April of 2009 stating the scientific reasoning behind its methodology of curving its test results for substandard batches of Yaz. The FDA strongly argued Bayer's, "response does not adequately address some of the deficiencies."
Bayer must now hand over a list of batches shipped to the United States that may have been inadequately tested. This is usually the first step in an official Yaz recall.
